As algas marinhas utilizadas na medicina tradicional representam um reservatório inestimável de novas moléculas bioativas. No presente estudo, as algas marinhas Gracilaria corticata e Spirulina platensis foram recolhidas e secas à sombra. O material de algas marinhas seco à sombra foi pulverizado e o pó foi submetido a extração com metanol por Soxhlet. Os vários constituintes químicos, como alcalóides, flavonóides, glicosídeos, fenóis e saponinas, foram identificados nesta alga marinha pelo método TLC e HPLC. Os extratos de algas marinhas de Spirulina platensis mostraram melhor atividade contra Staphylococcus aureus, mas a Gracilaria corticata mostrou melhor atividade com outros Bacillus em comparação com os outros organismos.
