Die Studie befaßt sich mit der Frage, inwieweit sich mit diesen Veränderungen die Rolle von Bildung und Ausbildung für die individuellen Übergangsmuster in das Erwerbsleben und die daran geknüpften Beschäftigungs- und Karrierechancen gewandelt hat. Das Buch geht auf der Grundlage empirischer Analysen dieser Frage nach und untersucht für Deutschland die Muster der Übergänge zwischen Schule, Ausbildungssystem und Arbeitsmarktpositionen in einem Zeitraum von mehr als vier Jahrzehnten.
