„Schlaganfall' ist ein Oberbegriff für ein fokales neurologisches Ereignis, das akut auftritt und eine vaskuläre Ursache, Ätiologie oder Relevanz haben kann. Ein Schlaganfall ist ein Zustand, bei dem Gehirnzellen aufgrund von Sauerstoffmangel plötzlich absterben. Der ischämische Schlaganfall macht 80 % aller Schlaganfälle aus. Eine Nierenfunktionsstörung wurde mit einem erhöhten Schlaganfallrisiko in Verbindung gebracht. Die Nierenfunktionsstörung bei Patienten mit einem erstmaligen ischämischen Schlaganfall wurde jedoch bislang nicht gründlich untersucht. Diese Studie untersuchte den Status der Nierenfunktion bei einer Kohorte von Patienten mit ischämischem Schlaganfall, die derselben ethnischen Gruppe angehörten und aus derselben Region stammten.
