Synopsis: Our world is full of people facing challenging situations such as starvation, disease, social injustice and poverty. These conditions abound, yet many of us are unaware of the extent of suffering all around us. Maybe that’s because we just don’t want to see, or maybe we are overwhelmed by the enormity of problems.Have you ever felt that your contributions to society would be insignificant? Is it possible for one person to make a difference in the world? This is the story of my life. I’m nobody special, but through a series of events, I have been able to do some very special things. I wrote this book, not to bring praise or honor to myself, but to share about my adventures and possibly encourage others to look outside themselves, find what skills and gifts they can share with others, and do what they can to make the world a better place. When I was sixty-five years old, my dream of joining the Peace Corps finally came to fruition. Falling in love with the people of Africa was easy; making a difference in their lives took hard work and ingenuity. I was honored to be given the nickname Bibi Kay, Grandmother of African Orphans. Changes came to a small corner of Africa, and I found myself changed as well. One person can make a difference.Autobiography: Kay Oursler, in many ways a typical American woman, has led an extraordinary life. Joining the Peace Corps at age sixty-five, Kay fell in love with the people of Africa. While many people her age are retired, Kay wasn’t ready to sit back and relax. She spent twenty years in the bush country of Tanzania, where she worked tirelessly to provide medical and educational facilities to poverty-stricken villagers. Now ’officially’ retired, she loves telling others about her adventures in Africa and hopes to inspire others to make a difference in the world.
