En Autriche, les femmes sont encore fortement sous-représentées au niveau des cadres supérieurs, bien qu’une proportion élevée de femmes au niveau de la direction génère de nombreux effets positifs, tels que des pratiques de rémunération plus équitables, des investissements plus durables, mais aussi une garantie de leur position sur le marché des capitaux. Le présent travail explique pourquoi ce déséquilibre existe et quelles mesures peuvent être prises pour y remédier. L’analyse théorique des causes donne de bonnes pistes de réflexion pour le traitement pratique de la thématique. Celle-ci explique les barrières systémiques qui empêchent les femmes de progresser dans leur carrière. Elle permet d’identifier la cause principale de la faible représentation des femmes dans les postes à responsabilité en raison du système établi en Autriche. L’État régule principalement par le biais des quotas de femmes, mais des recommandations volontaires et l’amélioration des conditions générales concernant la protection de la maternité, le partage du congé, les congés pour soins et les possibilités de garde pourraient également réduire les défis systémiques pour les femmes. Des solutions proposées par le secteur privé sont également présentées dans le travail.
