This is a transcription of the oldest extant Dutch Church registers in the United States--extending a full 150 years and bearing reference to some 44,000 persons. Included are the names of many Dutchmen who first made their homes in New York or Albany, and a very large proportion of the Dutch families who immigrated to this country before the close of the 17th century are represented here, since for a long time the Kingston Church was the only ecclesiastical jurisdiction between New York and Albany and people from the vast territory in between came to the Church to be married and to have their children baptized. Baptisms and marriages are rendered throughout in chronological order, the baptisms typically giving the names of the parents, including the maiden name of the mother, the date of the baptism, and the names of sponsors and witnesses; the marriages giving the parties’ places of birth and residence as well as the date of marriage.
