Książka zawiera badania eksperymentalne dotyczące skrawalności stali łożyskowych metodą toczenia czołowego. Badania te są przydatne w ekonomicznych rozwiązaniach obróbki skrawaniem, pozwalających z góry określić skrawalność wybranego materiału stalowego klasy AISI-52100/EN-31. W celu przeprowadzenia badań skrawalności metodą toczenia czołowego wykorzystano dwa podobne gatunki stali łożyskowej, różniące się nieznacznie składem chemicznym. Krytyczna liczba przejść skrawających wynosiła 0,3 mm zużycia boku. Kryteriami oceny skuteczności technicznej metody toczenia czołowego były: zużycie narzędzia, trwałość narzędzia oraz jakość powierzchni. Testy są przeprowadzane zgodnie z wytycznymi określonymi w normie międzynarodowej ISO 3685:1993E, dotyczącej badania trwałości narzędzi za pomocą narzędzi do toczenia jednopunktowego. Przedstawione tutaj wyniki pokazują, że metoda toczenia czołowego pozwala rozróżnić skrawalność dwóch stali łożyskowych o nieznacznie różnym składzie chemicznym. Metoda toczenia czołowego jest prosta, łatwa i podkreśla skuteczność oraz czułość.
