Para la realización de este libro y una película sobre el tema, salí a finales del 2007 hacia las selvas mayas. Esta travesía fue necesaria para comprobar mi hipótesis que los cambios climáticos que llevaron a muchas antiguas ciudades mayas a su declive, tienen mucho en común con los cambios climáticos que hoy enfrentamos. Para apoyar esta teoría me entrevisté con geógrafos, arqueólogos, antropólogos, así como científicos de mucha reputación.
