Książka ta dotyczy wykrywania nowych zmian w stwardnieniu rozsianym (SM) w podłużnych badaniach rezonansu magnetycznego (MR) mózgu. Wykrywanie i kwantyfikacja nowych zmian ma kluczowe znaczenie dla obserwacji pacjentów z SM. Ponadto ręczne wykrywanie nowych zmian jest nie tylko czasochłonne, ale także podatne na zmienność wewnątrz- i międzyobserwacyjną. Dlatego też opracowanie zautomatyzowanych technik wykrywania zmian SM stanowi poważne wyzwanie. Po dokładnej analizie najnowszych metod wykrywania zmian SM przedstawiamy nową klasyfikację technik, wskazując ich główne zalety i wady. Przedstawiono również uzupełniającą ocenę ilościową niektórych z najbardziej znaczących metod opisanych w literaturze. Następnie przedstawiono nową propozycję opartą na podejściu wykrywania zmian, które łączy różne cechy różnych modalności obrazowania MR. W tym celu, uwzględniając obrazy bazowe i kontrolne, połączono wyniki uzyskane z obrazów PD-w i T2-w w sposób nadzorowany i nienadzorowany. Ocenę przeprowadzono w sposób ilościowy i jakościowy.
