Dieses Buch ist ein Versuch, die Leistung der SMED-Technik in einer kleinen Produktionseinheit in Nordindien zu untersuchen. Die untersuchte Fertigungsindustrie litt unter hohen Rüstzeiten, geringer Produktion und niedriger Gesamteffektivität der Anlagen. Verschiedene Schritte zur Implementierung der SMED-Technik wurden systematisch verfolgt. Die wichtigsten finanziellen Vorteile wurden ermittelt. Durch den Einsatz von SMED-Techniken wurden zwei Tätigkeiten wie das Erhitzen und Messen von Verpackungen von intern auf extern verlagert. Einführung neuer Werkzeuge wie Heißlehren, Mustergesenke für die Heißinspektion geschmiedeter Kurbel und pneumatische Schraubenschlüssel für das Lösen oder Anziehen der Schrauben von Untergesenken. Nach dem Einsatz von SMED beträgt der Zeitaufwand für das Rüsten der Gesenke 167,09 Minuten/Tag und die Zeitersparnis beträgt 42,27 Minuten. Vor dem Einsatz von SMED wurden für das Einrichten der Gesenke (Schmiedepresse) 209,36 Minuten/Tag benötigt. Nach der Untersuchung der Tätigkeiten im Zusammenhang mit dem Einrichten von Gesenken (Schmiedepressen) wurde festgestellt, dass die Rüstzeit durch SMED-Techniken reduziert werden kann.
