Il presente lavoro è stato studiato per valutare le attività diuretiche e antiurolitiche dell’estratto di foglie di Saccharum officinarum. L’estratto di foglie è stato somministrato a ratti da esperimento per via orale alla dose di 200mg/kg e 400mg/kg. La furosemide (5mg/kg) è stata utilizzata come standard per l’attività diuretica. I parametri misurati per l’attività diuretica sono stati il volume totale delle urine, le concentrazioni di elettroliti nelle urine come sodio, potassio, cloruro e bicarbonati. Nell’attività antiurolitica in vitro, la cristallizzazione dell’ossalato di calcio è stata indotta dall’aggiunta di soluzioni di ossalato di sodio 0,01 M in urine sintetiche. L’effetto dell’estratto (100, 200 e 500μg/ml) è stato studiato attraverso la misurazione dell’assorbanza a 620 nm per dieci minuti mediante uno spettrofotometro. L’estratto ha mostrato un’inibizione a 120 secondi (40,31, 60,46 e 63,56%) e la massima inibizione della cristallizzazione dell’ossalato di calcio a 600 secondi (55,24, 69,93 e 72,72%). Per quanto riguarda l’attività antiurolitica in vivo, l’urolitiasi è stata indotta in ratti maschi somministrando glicole etilenico (0,75% v/v) in acqua potabile per 28 giorni e sono stati stimati i parametri quali ossalato, calcio e fosfato.
