As doenças surgem nos hospitais, causando uma vulnerabilidade incessante, incapacidade, morte e despesas excessivas para as pessoas afectadas. Esta realidade é partilhada por todos os hospitais do mundo, o que faz com que seja um assunto que atualmente atrai muita atenção, daí o desenvolvimento do conceito de infecções nosocomiais. A resolução deste problema dá origem a uma política de prevenção que encontra dificuldades nos hospitais da Costa do Marfim. Este facto deve-se às atitudes dos intervenientes. Esta situação inclui claramente o Hospital Regional de Daloa. O objetivo deste estudo foi, portanto, investigar as atitudes higiénicas dos utentes do hospital face aos riscos de infecções nosocomiais. Utilizando uma abordagem de métodos mistos, o estudo mostrou que a redução do risco de infecções nosocomiais exige a adoção de práticas de higiene recomendadas nos centros de saúde da Costa do Marfim.
