This book is designed to interrogate theories in the anthropology of religion through a consideration of the ritual practices and belief systems of the Andean community of Rapaz. Salomon’s style allows for an appraisal of classical approaches in the anthropology of religion whilst simultaneously providing an effective means to critically evaluate the more recent ontological turn. Interjecting different theoretical paradigms to make sense of ethnographic particulars, Salomon delivers theories of religion from the realm of abstraction and provides students with a much richer understanding of alternate religious experiences.
