O estudo examina as associações de cidades natal quenianas sediadas na Alemanha e os papéis que desempenham, tanto no Quénia como na Alemanha. A ideia por trás deste livro é descobrir os diferentes campos em que essas associações estão envolvidas e como elas mobilizam recursos para realizar essas atividades transfronteiriças. Embora pesquisas semelhantes tenham sido realizadas sobre as associações de cidades natal da América Latina e o papel que desempenham nos países de origem e de destino, pouco se sabe sobre as associações de cidades natal africanas em rápido crescimento na Europa. Este estudo obtém informações de várias fontes, incluindo a revisão da literatura sobre a diáspora africana, migração e desenvolvimento. Foi realizada uma pesquisa com as HTAs quenianas na Alemanha, tanto formais como informais, e foram realizadas entrevistas com os membros das associações. Em conclusão, a nossa pesquisa descobriu que as HTAs prosperam melhor quando têm acesso a recursos materiais e humanos.
