Education is an important tool that can be used to empower marginalized groups for them to be integrated in a country’s development. This importance notwithstanding, many street children in Kenya have not been to school and are thus disadvantaged when it comes to participation in the affairs of the nation. Yet research on which this book is based reveals that these children have clear aspirations and have great dreams of where they wish to be in the future. They also know that for them to achieve their vision, they need to receive quality education if they are to compete favorably with their age mates in the regular schools. The book highlights the aspirations and challenges of Kenya’s street children and concludes that there is need to address their educational needs. It rationalizes the establishment of an education for life centre that would act as a transition between the streets and formal schools for street children and proposes teaching these children accelerated courses at the centre. This book is useful to researchers, educationists and anyone interested in understanding issues related to children in difficult circumstances.
