Der Küstenstreifen (20 km) erstreckt sich über zwei Distrikte, Junagadh und Amreli, sowie 13 Talukas. Von der gesamten Fischproduktion in Höhe von 645 Tonnen entfielen 62 Prozent auf die Fischereizentren von Junagadh. In Veraval und Mangrol gibt es zwei ausgebaute Fischereihäfen mit zugehörigen Küstenanlagen, ein weiterer wurde in Porbandar hinzugefügt. Daher sind die Fischgründe von Gujarat weitläufig. Das Hauptziel der vorliegenden Studie ist die Erstellung einer Basisdatenbank und einer Checkliste der Fischfauna des Küstengebiets von Madhavpur bei Porbandar in der Region Saurashtra.
