Lorsque nous nous sommes réunis pour produire collectivement notre travail de fin de stage, nous avions dès le départ l’intention de produire, par le biais du langage photographique, un matériau plein de charge symbolique susceptible de produire une expérience unique pour le lecteur de l’image. Ainsi, le tarot a émergé (est resté et s’est attardé) en tant qu’objet d’étude pour ce projet expérimental. Ce livre, ainsi qu’un rapport sur le processus créatif du livre photo du même nom, est une étude du langage visuel du tarot. En nous basant sur la méthodologie de lecture d’images de Didi-Hubermann, nous sommes restés ouverts aux dialogues établis avec nos répertoires et aux différentes temporalités qui émergent de ces cartes. Nous avons également mené une recherche sur la narration contenue dans la séquence des arcanes majeurs, en cherchant des relations avec le Voyage du Héros de Joseph Campbell, et sur l’origine des symboles ésotériques contenus dans les jeux de cartes, en dialogue avec la psychologie de Carl Jung. Telle est la proposition d’Arcanum, qui passe par les archétypes et les mythologies pour raconter, à travers les photographies produites, les délices et les mésaventures du chemin des arcanes majeurs et inciter le lecteur à entreprendre son propre voyage.
