La crescente industrializzazione e la rapida crescita demografica hanno aumentato notevolmente il tasso di inquinamento delle acque in tutto il mondo. La diminuzione delle risorse idriche naturali ha reso questo problema un serio limite per la crescita industriale e per un ragionevole standard di vita metropolitano. Le agenzie per la protezione dell’ambiente hanno imposto divieti normativi più severi per proteggere l’ambiente idrico. Oggi il trattamento delle acque reflue è molto critico a causa dell’elevato utilizzo di acqua dolce e dello scarico di quella altamente inquinata. Sono molte le tecnologie adottate per ridurre le sostanze organiche e inorganiche dalle acque reflue. In questo capitolo, viene esplorata l’applicazione di varie tecnologie per purificare le acque reflue industriali. È quindi necessario sviluppare un metodo di trattamento efficace e a basso costo operativo per il trattamento delle acque reflue industriali.
