Le Stone Matrix Asphalt (SMA) est un mélange à forte proportion de gros granulats et à forte teneur en liant bitumineux pour remplir les vides formés dans la structure. Des fibres ou des liants modifiés sont généralement ajoutés au mélange afin d’éviter un écoulement excessif du liant. Ce travail a étudié l’ajout de fibres de sisal aux mélanges SMA, les propriétés d’absorption des liquides et de stabilité à haute température de ces fibres suggérant qu’elles peuvent être utilisées dans les mélanges chauds. Les résultats indiquent que la fibre réduit l’écoulement du liant et l’ajout dans différentes proportions avec une longueur de 15 mm a montré des améliorations des propriétés mécaniques, telles qu’une augmentation de la résistance à la traction et de la résistance à la traction conservée, qui dépassent le minimum requis pour les mélanges SMA. La fibre s’est avérée être un matériau approprié pour une utilisation dans les mélanges d’asphalte et a montré une grande capacité à empêcher l’écoulement excessif du liant.
