O Nível de Acessibilidade ao Transporte Público (PTAL) é uma das muitas ferramentas utilizadas para calcular o nível local de acessibilidade ao transporte público numa área urbana. O PTAL foi criado pelo bairro londrino de Hammersmith e Fulham e posteriormente adotado pela Transport for London (TfL). O objetivo da tese é avaliar o nível de acesso em Vijayawada, Índia, utilizando o Nível de Acessibilidade ao Transporte Público (PTAL) e identificar as áreas adequadas para prioridades de desenvolvimento na Corporação Municipal de Vijayawada. Aqui, o método PTAL é utilizado para determinar o nível de acessibilidade de todas as origens possíveis em Vijayawada. Os parâmetros utilizados para o PTAL são o tempo de caminhada de uma origem até à paragem de transporte público mais próxima e o tempo de espera para entrar num serviço (autocarro) durante o horário de pico.
