Em primeiro lugar, são apresentadas várias ferramentas e fontes disponíveis para a análise de sentimentos e é fornecido um breve historial da investigação relacionada com cada ferramenta. Além disso, o modelo Google Trend foi concebido para avaliar se a informação sobre o volume de pesquisa de termos selecionados pode ser utilizada para prever movimentos futuros do índice S&P 500. A estratégia baseada nesse modelo é implementada em dados históricos e o seu retorno acumulado é comparado com a estratégia clássica de comprar e manter. Além disso, é testada a hipótese de ser possível utilizar notícias divulgadas publicamente como um indicador importante para o retorno futuro das acções. Por último, descreve-se o processo de análise algorítmica do sentimento e avaliam-se os seus pontos fortes e fracos.
