O presente estudo questiona os fundamentos e as lógicas de construção das afirmações rumores num contexto social irrigado por uma abundância de discursos oficiais relacionados com a epidemia da doença do vírus Ébola. As investigações realizadas em Tabou, cidade do sudoeste da Costa do Marfim, revelam cinco tipos de rumores em circulação no corpo social. Trata-se de rumores que negam a doença, teorias da conspiração, rumores de estrangeirismo, rumores de terapias e rumores de acordos políticos. Esses rumores sobre a MVE tiveram uma difusão plural e suficientemente dispersa no espaço social. Eles se espalharam por laços de afinidade, em espaços frequentados regularmente. Essas tendências interpretativas atribuídas à doença têm suas origens nos materiais do imaginário social, compostos por ressentimentos pós-coloniais, mas também por dados da história social e política mais recente.
