El presente libro es un estudio sobre los jóvenes y la influencia del consumo de moda en la formulación de su identidad y cultura, buscando entender las interrelaciones entre consumo e identidad. Se hace énfasis en la moda (vestimenta y apariencia personal) por ser un consumo representativo de la sociedad contemporánea; también por su intensidad en contener las dinámicas de oferta y demanda y, además, su potencial de englobar elementos simbólicos en su compra, uso y experiencia posterior.El estudio se concentra en jóvenes de zona periférica, por ser el sector de mayor dinamismo social, económico y demográfico de la capital en un contexto de crecimiento económico reconocido a nivel internacional.Se segmenta a la población joven y universitaria, quienes constituirían una señal de cambio generacional y movilidad social paradigmática de este contexto.
