Une expérience doit être menée sur un moteur diesel monocylindre à quatre temps, refroidi par air et à injection directe, en utilisant du carburant diesel, de l’ester méthylique d’huile de coton (CSOME), des mélanges de diesel et de CSOME dans des proportions de 20 %/80 %, 40 %/60 %, 60 %/40 %, 80 %/20 %, 50 %/50 % en volume. Le biodiesel de graines de coton présente une bonne stabilité à l’oxydation, mais des propriétés médiocres à basse température. Les performances, la combustion et les caractéristiques d’émission du CSOME, des mélanges de diesel et de CSOME doivent être comparées aux résultats obtenus avec le carburant diesel de référence.
