Le riz est un aliment de base important qui nourrit plus de la moitié de la population mondiale. Le Pakistan est un important pays producteur de riz et est célèbre dans le monde entier pour son exportation de riz basmati aromatique de haute qualité. Cependant, le rendement du riz stagne au Pakistan depuis plusieurs décennies. Pour remédier à cette stagnation, certaines lignées avancées d’élite ont été développées par l’université Hazara en modifiant l’architecture végétale actuelle des variétés JP-5 et Basmati 385. Ces lignées sont à haut rendement et possèdent une meilleure qualité de grain. La présente étude a donc été conçue pour caractériser correctement ces lignées avancées sur la base de la qualité physique du grain et des traits phénotypiques.
