I sistemi di essiccazione solare sono da tempo riconosciuti come un mezzo sostenibile ed economico per conservare gli alimenti e i prodotti agricoli. Utilizzando l’energia solare per rimuovere l’umidità, questi sistemi svolgono un ruolo fondamentale nel prevenire il deterioramento, ridurre la crescita microbica e prolungare la durata di conservazione dei prodotti. I metodi tradizionali di essiccazione al sole, ampiamente praticati nei Paesi in via di sviluppo grazie alla loro semplicità e al basso costo, rappresentano le prime forme di essiccazione solare. Tuttavia, questi metodi sono spesso inefficienti ed espongono i prodotti alla contaminazione di polvere, insetti e altri fattori ambientali.
