In this essay the author carefully provides the reader with an analysis of the theological claim ’Humanity before Religiosity’which was the subject of a series of talks and articles written by Habib Ali al-Jifri between 2012 and 2014 that led to vividdebates concerning the validity and benefit such statement. The author commences with a concise summary of the mainarguments of the statement ’Humanity before Religiosity’ and proceeds with a careful analysis of the main critiques againstthe statement. Hamid aims to illustrate not only the invalidity of these arguments but also to reiterate the necessity of ’Humanitybefore Religiosity’ through a careful cursory reading of pivotal texts in the Islamic tradition.
