La monografia descrive le concentrazioni di NH3 ambientale e di altri gas in traccia (NO, NO2, SO2, O3 e CO) e la loro interazione su Delhi, NCR, IGP, regione himalayana e Baia del Bengala in India. Le concentrazioni medie di NH3, NO, NO2, SO2 e CO nell’ambiente sono state registrate rispettivamente come 21,2 ± 5,4 ppb, 19,5 ± 4,9 ppb, 17,4 ± 1,4 ppb, 1,7 ± 0,5 ppb e 1,6 ± 0,7 ppm durante l’inverno, mentre le concentrazioni medie di NH3, NO, NO2, SO2 e CO nell’ambiente sono state registrate rispettivamente come 20,8 ± 4,7 ppb, 21,7 ± 6,3 ppb, 16,8 ± 3,1 ppb, 2,2 ± 0,8 ppb e 1,8 ± 0,9 ppm durante l’estate a Delhi. I risultati hanno evidenziato che il traffico potrebbe essere una delle fonti significative di NH3 nell’ambiente urbano di Delhi, come illustrato dalle correlazioni positive tra NH3 e gli inquinanti legati al traffico (NO, NO2 e CO).Anche l’analisi dei venti superficiali e delle direzioni del vento conferma che il traffico stradale e le attività agricole nella zona circostante sono possibili fonti significative di NH3 nell’ambiente nel sito oggetto dello studio. È stata inoltre dimostrata l’emissione di NH3 dal sistema di coltivazione di riso e grano dei terreni agricoli subtropicali di Delhi, in India. Circa il 9% dell’azoto applicato è andato perso sotto forma di NH3 durante le coltivazioni di riso e grano.
