La monographie décrit les concentrations ambiantes de NH3 et d’autres gaz à l’état de traces (NO, NO2, SO2, O3 et CO) ainsi que leurs interactions au-dessus de Delhi, de la région de la capitale nationale, de l’IGP, de la région himalayenne et du golfe du Bengale en Inde. Les concentrations moyennes de NH3, NO, NO2, SO2 et CO dans l’air ambiant ont été enregistrées respectivement à 21,2 ± 5,4 ppb, 19,5 ± 4,9 ppb, 17,4 ± 1,4 ppb, 1,7 ± 0,5 ppb et 1,6 ± 0,7 ppm pendant l’hiver, tandis que les concentrations moyennes de NH3, NO, NO2, SO2 et CO dans l’air ambiant ont été enregistrées respectivement à 20,8 ± 4,7 ppb, 21,7 ± 6,3 ppb, 16,8 ± 3,1 ppb, 2,2 ± 0,8 ppb et 1,8 ± 0,9 ppm pendant l’été à Delhi. Les résultats ont souligné que le trafic routier pourrait être l’une des sources importantes de NH3 ambiant dans la zone urbaine de Delhi, comme l’illustrent les corrélations positives entre le NH3 et les polluants liés au trafic routier (NO, NO2 et CO). L’analyse des vents de surface et des directions du vent confirme également que le trafic routier et les activités agricoles dans les environs sont des sources possibles importantes de NH3 ambiant sur le site étudié. Les émissions de NH3 provenant du système de culture riz-blé des sols agricoles subtropicaux de Delhi, en Inde, ont également été démontrées. Environ 9 % de l’azote appliqué a été perdu sous forme de NH3 pendant les cultures de riz et de blé.
