Questo libro analizza la prevalenza dell’allattamento al seno esclusivo e dell’allattamento al seno dei neonati prematuri, durante il ricovero, durante la dimissione e una settimana dopo la dimissione a casa, attraverso uno studio epidemiologico retrospettivo trasversale su 128 neonati prematuri e le loro madri, in una maternità pubblica di riferimento per le gravidanze ad alto rischio. Per l’analisi dei dati sono state utilizzate le statistiche descrittive e sono stati ottenuti i seguenti risultati: variabili sociodemografiche delle madri: il 56,4% delle gestanti erano adolescenti e avevano una scarsa scolarizzazione (58,6%); variabili relative alla gravidanza e al parto, come il tipo di parto predominante era il cesareo (58,6%); e le condizioni di nascita dei neonati: il punteggio Apgar era superiore a sette al 1° e al 5° minuto (rispettivamente, 57% - 82,1%), il 90% con età gestazionale tra 32 e 36 settimane e peso alla nascita tra 1500 e 2500 g (64,1%). Quando un bambino prematuro nasce con un punteggio Apgar superiore a sette e un peso alla nascita compreso tra 1500 e 2500 g, questi fattori sono favorevoli all’avvio precoce dell’allattamento al seno, all’allattamento al seno e al suo mantenimento fino alla nascita del bambino a casa.
