It seeks to investigate, using quantitative methods, evidence that the concept of the Information Society (IS), widely used in the field of information and which has been changing its objects and objectives, is conceptually supported in the disciplines of sociology and economics. This research is based on an article by Duff (1995), who states that the concept of IS is mainly used by American academics in the field of information and that this concept is rarely cited in scientific production in History, Economics, and Sociology, disciplines whose specific knowledge should underpin this category of explanation of reality. The methodology used consisted of collecting data from the Sociological Abstracts and EconLit databases, which we chose as representative of international scientific production in Sociology and Economics, respectively, and then comparing them with results from the Information Field. The work is based on the analytical theory of the condition of information in contemporary times and on a critique of the notion of IS for the analysis of the evidence found.
