I loved sports growing up especially basketball. George Gervin (the Iceman), Dr. J and Michael Jordan were my heroes. I could never play well, but like my dad and brother writing sports became a great way to enjoy sports. At UAB, I became a student assistant in the Sports Information Department and wrote a magazine piece on basketball Coach Gene Bartow. He loved it and framed it. He took me under his wings, teaching me the game, strategies, scouting and motivating players. I was a sponge absorbing everything including a love of the game.My coaching career began when my preacher asked me to make the Jr high church team an outreach program. I put my knowledge to good use. We ended up winning the county title. This book chronicles my adventures from the lowest to highest levels of basketball. I rose to the top by learning the game from great mentors, study and believing in myself. This book will inspire, teach and motivate you. It will even make you laugh at some of the crazy adventures. Sometimes, games were unfair, but you learned valuable life lessons on not giving up.Success and knowing your craft translates across the board as does hope, faith and loving what you do. I hope you enjoy my adventures in basketball.
