Si ritiene che i processi di apprendimento guidati dall’errore siano fondamentali per l’adattamento visuomotorio. La ricerca ha dimostrato che un aumento del feedback sull’errore può migliorare l’adattamento nei soggetti con danni neurologici. Alcuni studi sulla demenza e l’apprendimento motorio hanno indicato che i pazienti affetti da demenza tendono a fare maggiore affidamento sul feedback sensoriale per il controllo del movimento. Questo studio ha esaminato l’aumento del feedback di errore in soggetti anziani di controllo e in anziani con deficit cognitivo. Un compito di adattamento visuomotorio center-out ha valutato l’apprendimento motorio in due condizioni sperimentali: feedback di errore normale e amplificato. L’ipotesi era che i soggetti con deficit cognitivo avrebbero tratto beneficio dal feedback amplificato. I risultati non hanno indicato differenze nell’adattamento tra i gruppi nella condizione normale. La condizione con feedback amplificato ha rivelato un’interazione degli effetti residui della deviazione spaziale lungo i percorsi di movimento, suggerendo che gli anziani con deficit cognitivo potrebbero trarre beneficio dall’aumento del feedback visivo sull’errore.
