Esta dissertação tem como tema o uso da musicoterapia no acompanhamento espiritual de pacientes em cuidados paliativos. A hipótese inicial é que, nessas condições tão desestabilizadoras do fim da vida, a musicoterapia permite ao paciente entrar em contacto com um espaço interior de bem-estar e uma experiência suficientemente profunda para lhe revelar a singularidade da sua existência. No mundo ocidental e na França em particular, a repressão da espiritualidade leva muitas pessoas ao sofrimento espiritual. Pude constatar que a musicoterapia permitia a muitos pacientes aceder à sua interioridade profunda. Isso despertou sentimentos de alegria ou bem-estar e alguns puderam experimentar estados contemplativos ou mesmo extáticos. Ela pode assumir a forma de um ritual de passagem que ajuda a pessoa a alcançar outras dimensões do seu ser. A musicoterapia parece ser particularmente adequada à sociedade secular moderna e pode responder ao grande sofrimento experimentado por pessoas sem religião, tornando o acompanhamento espiritual mais acessível.
