Book DescriptionSelected Works of World Chinese Poets: The Three-Line Poems (2021-2025) presents a stunning collection of contemporary three-line poems by Chinese-language poets from around the world. Curated by The Poetry Hall of the Chinese Poetics Society and published by Chicago Academic Press, this volume celebrates the art of poetic minimalism-where just three lines can evoke vast emotion, deep reflection, and timeless beauty.Spanning themes of nature, memory, identity, and modern life, these micro-poems reveal the boundless imagination and precision of Chinese poetry today. Each piece transforms simplicity into depth, turning fleeting moments into lasting insight. From traditional imagery reimagined for the present to daring innovations in form and language, the anthology captures the diversity, elegance, and vitality of a global poetic tradition in motion. For readers, writers, and poetry lovers alike, this collection offers both aesthetic pleasure and philosophical resonance-a journey through the infinite within the finite, where a handful of words can open entire worlds.PrefaceThis volume, Selected Works of World Chinese Poets: The Three-Line Poems (2021-2025), is dedicated to showcasing the remarkable achievements of Chinese-language poets around the world in the field of three-line poetry from 2021 to 2025. As a highly condensed poetic form, the three-line poem embodies the principle of 'simplicity embracing complexity.' Within a limited span of words, it carries boundless poetic resonance and philosophical depth. It tests the poet’s ability to refine language to its purest essence, while also demanding precision and profundity in imagery, emotion, and thought. The works collected here reveal, through this 'micro yet meaningful' mode of writing, both the microcosm and the grand spirit of contemporary Chinese poetry. This anthology was initiated by The Poetry Hall, the bilingual quarterly published under the Chinese Poetics Society (Huashi Society), and compiled and published by the Chicago Academic Press. Since the announcement of the call for submissions, we have received a vast number of three-line poems from Chinese-language poets across the globe. Though brief in form, these poems are rich in theme and meaning: some draw inspiration from nature, capturing fleeting moments of mountains, rivers, and plants to mirror deep emotion and reflection; some begin with details of everyday life, uncovering truth and humanity amid the ordinary; others explore innovation in form and language, seeking to maximize rhythm, imagery, and tension within the confines of three lines. Some are as concise and enduring as aphorisms, some as luminous as light and shadow, and others as sharp as a blade cutting to the heart-together constructing a subtle yet vast artistic world of the three-line poem.Within these poems, readers will encounter both tender reflections on homeland and cultural roots, and profound meditations on personal existence amid the tides of the times; both modern reinterpretations of traditional aesthetics and keen insights into contemporary social issues; both moving portrayals of timeless themes such as maternal love and nostalgia, and meta-poetic reflections on the nature of language and poetry itself. With three lines as their vessel, the poets navigate an ocean of emotion and thought, finding abundance within minimalism and eternity within the instant-fully expressing the artistic power and moral resonance of Chinese micro-poetry, where 'ripples rise even in an inch of water' and 'great

    Edward V Bonner
The very title of Edward V. Bonner's first volume of poetry, One Kiss (Ingram, 2015), suggests some ways in which the poems inside balance the universal with the particular. Most of the poems examine the themes of beauty and risk, pleasure and danger, in the context of one of three kinds of relationships: to romantic partners, to the spiritual world, and to the world of nature....
