Absenteeism is a novel written by Sydney Morgan and published in 1825. The story follows the lives of two young women, Emily and Caroline, who are left to fend for themselves when their father, a wealthy absentee landlord, leaves them to live in London. The novel explores the consequences of absenteeism, as the sisters struggle to manage their estate and deal with the challenges of rural life without their father’s guidance. Along the way, they encounter a variety of characters, including a handsome young farmer and a scheming land agent, who add to the drama and intrigue of the plot. Through the eyes of Emily and Caroline, the reader is given a glimpse into the harsh realities of life in rural England during the early 19th century, as well as an exploration of the themes of family, duty, and responsibility. Overall, Absenteeism is a compelling and thought-provoking novel that offers a unique perspective on the social and economic issues of its time. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
