Este livro examina a adaptação dos atletas à reforma, analisando assim as experiências atléticas vividas e as oportunidades e desafios entre os atletas reformados nas regiões do Norte-Sul do Quénia Ocidental. O estudo foi motivado pela necessidade de examinar em pormenor e documentar o impacto e as experiências vividas do atletismo entre os atletas reformados das regiões do Norte-Sul do Quénia Ocidental. O estudo foi apoiado pela teoria do construtivismo social e pela teoria da auto-eficácia para concretizar o que precede. A literatura analisada, global, regional e local, ajudou a identificar a lacuna de conhecimento, daí a justificação do estudo. O paradigma filosófico que ancorou este estudo foi a filosofia construtivista. O estudo estabeleceu que as experiências vividas incluíam uma vida controlada e a separação da família, viagens pelo mundo e o subsequente choque cultural. Os resultados indicaram a dupla tributação, a corrupção, as más instalações de treino e o doping como desafios críticos. Outros não tinham capacidade de absorção para investir o dinheiro considerável ganho. Assim, o livro recomenda que o governo melhore o financiamento do desporto e aplique integralmente as leis e políticas existentes.
