जब मैंने ’ल्यूकेमिया’ लिखना शुरू किया, तब मेरे मन में कोई काल्पनिक कहानी नहीं थी, बल्कि एक पीड़ा थी, एक प्रश्न था-क्या कोई पिता अपने बच्चे को मृत्यु के कगार पर पहुंचते हुए देख सकता है और कुछ न कर पाने की बेबसी सह सकता है? क्या कोई माँ, जो अपने बच्चे के हर दर्द को अपना कलेजा काटकर हल्का करना चाहती है, वह चुपचाप बैठकर सिर्फ रिपोर्ट का इंतज़ार कर सकती है?’ल्यूकेमिया’ ऐसे ही सवालों से जन्मी एक भावनात्मक यात्रा है, जो एक सामान्य मध्यमवर्गीय परिवार पर उस वक्त टूट पड़ती है, जब उनके इकलौते बेटे को ’ल्यूकेमिया’-यानी रक्त कैंसर होने की जानकारी मिलती है।ल्यूकेमिया क्या है?ल्यूकेमिया एक प्रकार का रक्त कैंसर है, जो अस्थि मज्जा (Bone Marrow) और रक्त कोशिकाओं को प्रभावित करता है। सामान्यतः अस्थि मज्जा स्वस्थ लाल रक्त कोशिकाएं, श्वेत कोशिकाएं और प्लेटलेट्स बनाता है। लेकिन ल्यूकेमिया की स्थिति में, अस्थि मज्जा असामान्य और निष्क्रिय श्वेत कोशिकाओं का निर्माण करने लगता है, जो धीरे-धीरे शरीर की कार्यरत कोशिकाओं को बाहर कर देती हैं।ल्यूकेमिया के मुख्य चार प्रकार होते हैं:एक्यूट लिम्फोसाइटिक ल्यूकेमिया (ALL)एक्यूट मायलॉयड ल्यूकेमिया (AML)क्रोनिक लिम्फोसाइटिक ल्यूकेमिया (CLL)क्रोनिक मायलॉयड ल्यूकेमिया (CML)बच्चों में अधिकतर मामलों में ALL (एक्यूट लिम्फोब्लास्टिक ल्यूकेमिया) देखने को मिलता है। इसका इलाज संभव है, लेकिन इसके लिए समय, धन और भावनात्मक धैर्य की आवश्यकता होती है।कहानी का केंद्रबिंदु, अमार और उसका परिवारइस उपन्यास का हृदय है - एक मासूम बच्चा 'अमार', जिसे मामूली बुखार और थकावट की शिकायत लेकर अस्पताल जाना पड़ता है। वहीं से उसकी ज़िंदगी एक बिल्कुल नए मोड़ पर मुड़ जाती है।यह उपन्यास सिर्फ एक बीमारी की कहानी नहीं है, ब
