Este livro explora a estreita ligação entre a carência de vitamina D e a obesidade, dois grandes problemas de saúde pública em Marrocos e no mundo. Realizada em Kénitra, esta investigação avalia o estado da vitamina D e o metabolismo do fosfocálcio em pessoas com excesso de peso e obesas, bem como os efeitos da suplementação com vitamina D e óleo de argão. Os resultados de um estudo realizado durante um ano com 350 participantes revelaram uma elevada prevalência de carência de vitamina D, nomeadamente nas mulheres. A toma de um suplemento de vitamina D3 (600 UI/dia) melhorou significativamente os níveis séricos de 25(OH)D, tendo sido observados benefícios ainda maiores quando combinada com óleo de argão. Estes resultados realçam a importância da vitamina D para a saúde metabólica e sugerem que os recursos naturais locais, como o óleo de argão, podem desempenhar um papel valioso na melhoria dos resultados nutricionais e de saúde pública.
