A preservação de bens culturais passou por várias interpretações e diferentes práticas ao longo da história e, até a década de 1960, era orientada pela ’teoria do restauro’. Impulsionados pela tragédia da inundação do rio Arno, em 1966, os paradigmas que norteavam a preservação se alteraram drasticamente e passaram a ser guiados pelo conceito de ’conservação preventiva’. Todavia, percebe-se um descompasso entre os modelos teóricos de estudos acadêmicos internacionais e o debate da área em território nacional. Este livro tem o grande mérito de identificar a recepção da discussão sobre a ’conservação preventiva’ no Brasil, partindo da análise dos artigos publicados na Revista do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional (IPHAN), no período de 1937 a 1978. A pesquisa percorre a investigação da repercussão em âmbito nacional das mudanças de paradigmas da área, especialmente o novo modelo de ’conservação preventiva’, elaborado nas décadas de 1960 e 1970. 10
