'A Peep at the Pilgrims in Sixteen Hundred Thirty Six' is an 1824 historical romance novel by Harriet Vaughan Cheney. Set in 1636, it concerns the challenging lives of the early ’Pilgrims’ who arrived in American aboard the English ship the ’Mayflower’, which has since become an important part of North American history and the subject of innumerable works of art, plays, films, poems, songs, books, etc. An insightful novel that offers the reader a glimpse into what it was like to be among the early settlers of the United States. Harriet Vaughan Cheney (1796-1889) was an American-Canadian author most famous for her historical romances and religious children’s literature. Other notable works by this author include: 'The Sunday-School, or Village Sketches' (1820) and 'The Rivals of Acadia: an Old Story of the New World' (1827). Read & Co.
