Expelled from the country in 1984, by the regime, he returned to the West and became a world speaker, journalist, performing artist, and human rights activist, advocating for Burma’s struggle for freedom and political prisoners globally.Clements co-authored 'The Voice of Hope' with Nobel Peace Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi (presently imprisoned by the dictatorship).
