A proposta central deste projeto de pesquisa é analisar as dinâmicas que ocorreram no processo de manumissão durante o século XIX na Província de Cartagena. Basicamente o que se tenta explicar são os meios que tiveram os negros escravizados para deixar sua condição de escravo. A ênfase será colocada no remédio de manumissão, encontrado nos manuscritos do litígio realizado, no fundo de negros e escravos do Archivo General de la Nación; É importante não perder de vista que a voz desses atores sociais e seu acesso à liberdade será rastreada. A manumissão como mecanismo para obter a liberdade, em comparação com alguns casos que foram gerados na província de Cartagena nos anos 1800 - 1810. O mecanismo de manumissão é detalhado no tempo como um processo legal às vezes confronta a viabilidade dos escravos na frente de seus senhores, neste podemos verificar o mecanismo que se opõe e se impõe como um dispositivo no sistema escravista.
