Analisa a influência dos meios de comunicação de massa na formação da perceção dos riscos do VIH e da SIDA entre os jovens e explica como essas percepções influenciam o seu comportamento no que diz respeito às escolhas sexuais. A perceção do risco é considerada como o primeiro passo para a mudança de comportamento. Através dos meios de comunicação social, foram alcançados numerosos progressos na redução de novas infecções pelo VIH nos países em desenvolvimento e a mudança de comportamento está no centro desta resposta ao VIH e à SIDA. Compreender o poder dos meios de comunicação social neste sentido dará ao leitor a oportunidade de tirar partido dos debates e desenvolver campanhas de comunicação que sejam eficazes na criação de um ambiente em que haja um maior reconhecimento do risco pessoal.
