This book is about the analysis of the select short stories of Mulk Raj Anand and R. K. Narayan that there are significant Indian cultural reflections embedded in their narratives. Both the authors have portrayed Indian society, human conditions and culture although they approach these themes in distinct ways. The study reveals that both Mulk Raj Anand and R. K. Narayan have infused their short stories with cultural reflections skilfully which bring to light various facets of Indian society. One of the remarkable findings of the study is that Anand’s short stories emphasize social realism, colonial critique and humanism whereas; Narayan’s short stories offer insights into the life or ordinary people, spirituality and the interplay between tradition and modernity. It has been discovered that both Mulk Raj Anand and R. K. Narayan have significantly contributed to a deeper understanding of the diverse cultural landscape of India through their short stories. The study has revealed that Mulk Raj Anand’s short stories vividly depict the harsh realities of the Indian caste system and the lives of the marginalized individuals.
