Introdução. Uma das principais preocupações dos educadores científicos e de outros membros da sociedade é o declínio dos resultados académicos dos estudantes de ensino superior. Uma área de particular preocupação é o ensino da física. Um elevado nível de competências de raciocínio e de técnicas de resolução de problemas em física é necessário para o sucesso de uma sociedade tecnológica. Por esta razão, estas competências cruciais têm de ser continuamente desenvolvidas e mantidas (Smith & Westhoff, in Gay, Mills, & Airasian, 28 de julho de 2011). Além disso, a investigação está constantemente a fornecer novos métodos comprovados para os estudantes de Física utilizarem e a tecnologia desenvolveu todo o tipo de ferramentas ideais para serem utilizadas pelo estudante-professor que aprende através do ensino à distância. Uma dessas ferramentas é a tecnologia informática que utiliza software de Internet adequado. A Internet fornece aos estudantes-professores uma quantidade intensiva de dados em vários formatos diferentes, incluindo texto, som e vídeo, tornando possível apelar aos diferentes estilos de aprendizagem dos estudantes-professores e oferecer uma variedade de materiais para os estudantes analisarem (Howsen & Davis, in Gay, et.al, 28 de julho de 2011).
