''A Century of Negro Migration'' by Carter G. Woodson is a historical study of the migration of African Americans from the South to the North during the 19th and 20th centuries. The book explores the social, economic, and political factors that led to this migration, including the impact of slavery, Jim Crow laws, and economic opportunities in the North. Woodson also analyzes the cultural changes that occurred as a result of the migration, including the emergence of new forms of music, literature, and art. The book is a seminal work in the field of African American studies and provides a comprehensive overview of the experiences of African Americans during this period of significant social and cultural change in the United States. In some of these cases the fugitives found themselves among men more hostile to them than their masters were, for many of the Union soldiers of the border States were slaveholders themselves and northern soldiers did not understand that they were fighting to free Negroes. The condition in which they were on arriving, moreover, was a new problem for the army. Some came naked, some in decrepitude, some afflicted with disease, and some wounded in their efforts to escape. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world’s literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
