Entre os adultos mais velhos, os problemas físicos e cognitivos relacionados com a idade desafiam a necessidade de viver de forma independente no ambiente doméstico. Por conseguinte, as recentes tecnologias domésticas inteligentes visam melhorar a saúde e a qualidade de vida dos idosos através da monitorização do comportamento e das condições de saúde no seu ambiente doméstico. No entanto, ainda existem muitas preocupações relativamente à monitorização de dados privados. O estudo avalia a aceitação atual das funções de monitorização de uma tecnologia doméstica inteligente específica, a eWALL, e identifica factores para melhorar a aceitação. Foi efectuado um teste de usabilidade em pequena escala com 11 participantes, orientado para os principais constructos do modelo UTAUT. A aceitação geral foi neutra. No entanto, a monitorização de dados privados continua a ser vista como um obstáculo à utilização da tecnologia, uma vez que a utilidade foi considerada bastante reduzida. Esta tese de investigação discute medidas para melhorar a aceitação da tecnologia da casa inteligente e para a tornar mais viável para implementação futura.
