“Sharing the Journey…Leading the Way”This was the league motto adopted by the Flint Metro League Student Council in the early 1980’s. The league-wide student council, made up of student representatives from every Metro League school, is an example of the way that the league has done business for the first fifty years of its existence: collaborating and communicating to find the best practices used by member schools, so that doing “what’s best for the kids” could occur at multiple levels throughout the league. In this way, the success of the Flint Metro League has gone far beyond athletic competition to touch academics, citizenship and social growth for students in communities around the greater Flint area, including Genesee, Lapeer, Shiawassee and northern Oakland counties. This book is an attempt to share that half-century journey with those who participated in it or who are simply interested in how the Flint Metro League was created and why it continues to “Lead the Way”. Included are summaries of every member school in its history, summaries of every sponsored sport with historical photos, descriptions of the most notable athletes and coaches, and an index listing every first team all-league athlete in every sport over the first 50 years of the Flint Metro League's history.
