Ce travail vise à jeter les bases de l’élaboration d’un plan de gestion pour la zone de protection spéciale de la rivière Manso, un territoire destiné à préserver les sources d’eau du réservoir de la rivière Manso, qui alimente la région métropolitaine de Belo Horizonte, la capitale de l’État de Minas Gerais. La zone protégée ne dispose pas encore d’un système de gestion et, d’autre part, il existe des activités minières, agricoles et pastorales en amont du réservoir de captage d’eau, qui utilisent les types les plus divers de produits agrochimiques et de produits chimiques pour le traitement du minerai de fer dans leur processus de production. La région ne dispose pas non plus d’un système de traitement des eaux usées domestiques.
